In order to make our space as accessible as possible across a range of musical groups we have added the Drum/Solo Room with bookings as short as 30 minutes. While less equipped than our other rooms, it is a great space for those looking to turn up the volume without a larger group.
Yes! If you book and pre-pay for 4+ sessions we will provide a discount of 10-20% - just email us at info@thejr.ca to arrange.
We offer penalty-free cancellation up to 24 hours prior to your booked time. After that we may be able to apply your payment as credit to your next booking, but reserve the right to charge full amount due to late notice (we want to ensure everyone who wants a spot is able to get in after all).
There is a large parking lot for more than 40 cars and some on-street parking is typically available.
If you're ready to get buzzed into the building, call the number on the door, tell our friendly (admittedly AI) receptionist that you're "checking in to your hourly booking" and they should connect you with the individual on call who will buzz you in.
If you still can't get through, please call (226) 789-1446.
If you choose not to pay at the time of booking, e-transfers can be made to info@thejr.ca - we have auto-deposit enabled - or, if you would prefer to pay by debit or credit card, please contact us and we will send an invoice that will allow you to pay by credit or debit card.
To be honest, it has a lot to do with being able to meet city zoning requirements and the allowable uses applied to the building. This led to the exploration of options for private clubs, and allowable use, and the idea to run a “Communitech for Musicians”.
NOTE: Membership is now only required for persons named on any long term rental contract and any party looking to have “keyed” access to the space (monthly contracts).
Are you a visual artist, performing artist, content producer or have another artistic endeavour and are okay with potentially loud spaces (usually only at night)? Reach out to discuss whether it might make sense for you to get a membership and rent a space from us.
Our sound boards offer USB connectivity for live off the floor scratch recordings. If you reach out we may be able to help with recording as an add-on service or we can make a personal recommendation for recording studios.
Have you heard about The Union KW? If you haven't, you should go check them out on Instagram now (@theunionkw)! They run a live music venue in the front part of the building and regularly book local artists on their bills.
With Sherwood Music having closed their doors we now have a vending machine on site on the top floor for those "musical emergencies". The vending machine sells drumsticks, capos, ear plugs, guitar strings, patch cords, straps, picks and more so you won’t be held up from jamming no matter what time it is. NOTE: Our hourly rooms come equipped with 1/4" patch cables and mic cables.
We have video cameras on site and fob/keycode access to the building and individual rooms. External doors are to remain locked 24/7 to those without pre-authorized access.
NOTE: Please ensure access to the building is limited to members of The JR or those in your group. Providing access to non-members may be cause for termination of membership.
You can use our contact form here on our website or you can send us an email at info@thejr.ca
It feels like it should go without saying, but there are certain things that cannot occur in our rehearsal spaces (due to not meeting the intent of our organization, zoning and other restraints). Any person/group found to be participating in any of the following activities (or similar) on site will have their membership and access revoked:
Consumption/purchase/sale of illegal substances
Living in the space as a residence/dwelling
Undertaking of commercial activities out of the space (i.e. music lessons business, soliciting customers on site or providing services) without prior approval - the spaces are intended for practice/rehearsal/creation of art only
Production of adult sex films
Please note that this list is subject to change without notice and is intended to be used as a guideline and is not considered to be exhaustive. If you have questions about your desired activity please reach out.
